Aargh! Writer's Block, Again!!!
I admit it, I have writer's block, but not just any ordinary writer's block, but massive writer's block. I don't know how this happened, I was writing at a decent pace every day in the beginning, but then all of a sudden, when I went to sit down to write, all I could do was stare at my laptop screen and the words written on it. I would re-read the paragraph where I stopped to try and kick start my writing again and my mind would wander off to a land far, far away.
I'm not a quitter, but I am a perfectionist when it comes to any written work that I do. When I was in college, I loved doing research papers, but my teachers always complained because they would ask for a 8 - 10 page report on some subject and I would turn in a 25 page report because I would get carried away with all of the information. Funny, I never had writer's block when it came to my research papers, why am I having it now? Probably because what I'm writing is my life story and it's not all rainbows and butterflies. There are a lot of painful memories being put into this book and it seems as if I'm re-living each painful moment as I write about it.
The best thing for me when I write, is to have my music playing in my ears. I pop in my earbuds to my iPhone and play away. I have great music on my iPhone that always changes my frame of mind and helps redirect my thinking.
So on with my writing... writer's block, go away!!
Until next time...

Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate it! I've finally kick started myself and am writing again... but with little stutters in between.

I always have some of my best thinking in the shower. Strange I know, but it's my one place to reflect and ponder my thoughts... That or a cool brisk walk in early evening or early morning after dropping big kid off at school.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's bath time???
Can't really walk at the moment, we're under a severe thunderstorm watch and it's pretty windy out there. I don't want to get caught in a downpour and be blocks away from the house. I might melt - after all, I am made of sugar!

I hope you find something nifty to write about soon.
ReplyDeleteI have all of my daily blog posts written to get me to the end of the month, but I'm struggling with my manuscript. It's the story of my life and it's not all rainbows & butterflies. I still have so much to write, it's seeming overwhelming at the moment. I've also started writing my second manuscript in the hopes that switching gears would jog some good material, and it did, but I'm still very spacy at the moment. I've got my music in my ears hoping that it helps re-focus me. :-) It usually works for me.

I wonder if your perfectionism is getting in the way? I know that's a problem I often have when I'm writing. Have you heard of The Artist's Way? Excellent book to help you quiet that inner editor and let your creativity out.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower from the morning blog hop. I hope you'll come by and visit!
Thanks for your suggestion! Can you give me your blog address and I'd be happy to follow you back.

That's got to be frustrating. I run into this quite often. My problem is, not knowing what to talk about. My youngest son is like you. They ask for a page, he gives them 3. lol You'll get past this, no doubt!!
ReplyDeleteI ended up having a massive flood of creative juices after I posted this blog. I ended up writing over 4,000 words yesterday!! I'm writing the story of my life, so I've passed the 20,400 words mark! I'm pretty proud of myself, now I just have 18 more years to write about, then the book will be finished! Yay!!
